Paint: GMPC Gaslands

An Airbrush and two colors

First I have to admit that painting on this piece is by far not that spectacular as the building process.

Primer

The primed stage is always something special. It removes all the visible borders of individual materials - the noise - and appears like something that is not created of may bitz and pieces.

Since this piece was my first ever highly converted one, I’ve been very impressed of the outcome after priming. Even so Impressed, that I feared to put paint on it.

I googled alot for “desert and car” pictures. Beside a few cool sci-fi pieces most of the pics were really cars and frequently in the sundawn.

So parts of the cars were lightened in a strong orange, while the part in the shadow appeared blue.

Airbrush cheating

Wohoo - such a strong lighting scene was a great chance to use my airbrush which I’ve bought a few weeks ago and especially: avoid to ruin the cool primer zenithal effect with my brush.

But beside that, there wasn’t much to paint. Probably that's why some people call airbrushing cheating.

Sure - the pure airbrush look can easily identifies, but just a bit of shading, weathering and additionally highlighting made a difference.

Painted the Wheels NMM style

For the wheels I had to try NMM again - although nowadays I’d not add such a shiny look to a desert wasteland car. But at that time, I was proud like hell that the effect worked.

Weathering applied to chassie

A little dark to light brown weathering with brush and sponge and that's it.

Oh, wait. One cool detail is missed. The gasoline tank ripped of hose - there is a great MV tutorial on drops, that matched perfectly well:

And now my eyelash is part of the model (-;

Final Pictures

The final pictures are a bit dark - also photo skills improved over time, I probably should take some new ones

Aftermath

The challenged closed down and I’ve been chosen as winner. Although I felt very honored to win, it changed much more for me. I found a community of people and this pushed the priority and enjoyment of painting to different level. Which once was a necessary part for the gaming hobby became now my major hobby with new community, people that share the joy and an online place to meet.
